Industry-Specific Benchmarking
“We reduced our emissions by 12%. Is that good?” That was one of the first questions our innovation partners asked. Without benchmarks, sustainability data exists in a vacuum. Numbers mean nothing without context.
The problem
Data without context doesn’t drive decisions
A venue reports 2,400 tCO₂e per year. A sports club reports a 15% reduction in Scope 2. A festival achieves 80% waste diversion. These numbers sound meaningful, but without knowing what similar organisations achieve, they’re impossible to evaluate.
Is 2,400 tCO₂e high or low for a 20,000-seat arena? Is a 15% Scope 2 reduction leading or lagging compared to other clubs in the same league? Is 80% waste diversion best-in-class for a festival of that size, or is the industry average already at 85%?
Our innovation partners told us they couldn’t answer these questions. They had the data, but no way to put it in context. Boards asked how they compared. Sponsors wanted to know if they were backing a leader or a laggard. Without benchmarks, every conversation was guesswork.
Without benchmarking
“We reduced emissions by 12%.”
Sounds good. But is it? Nobody in the room knows. The board nods, the sponsor smiles, and nobody can say whether 12% is exceptional or below average for the sector.
With benchmarking
“We’re in the top 15% of venues our size.”
Now that’s a story. The board sees a competitive position. The sponsor sees proof they’re backing a leader. The sustainability team knows exactly where the remaining opportunities are.
How it works
Compare against peers, not averages
Generic benchmarks that compare a 5,000-seat conference centre to a 60,000-seat stadium are useless. Our benchmarking engine compares like with like: by sector, by size, by region, and by activity type.
All comparisons use anonymised peer data. You see where you rank and where the gaps are, but you never see another organisation’s raw numbers, and they never see yours.
The benchmarks are dynamic. As more organisations join the platform and contribute data, the peer sets grow and the comparisons become more precise. Over time, the entire industry gets a clearer picture of what “good” actually looks like.
Sector-specific
Venues compared to venues, sports clubs to sports clubs, festivals to festivals. Not a generic industry average.
Size and region adjusted
A 5,000-seat venue is compared to venues of similar capacity. A Nordic club is compared to peers in similar climate zones.
Anonymised and secure
You see your rank and the distribution. You never see another organisation's data, and they never see yours.
Scope and category level
Don't just compare total emissions. Drill down into Scope 1, 2, or 3, or into specific categories like energy, travel, or waste.
Dynamic peer sets
Benchmarks improve as more organisations join the platform. The more data, the more precise the comparisons.
Who benefits
Raw numbers become strategic insight
Boards and leadership
Sustainability performance presented as a competitive position. Not just “we reduced by 12%” but “we’re in the top quartile of venues our size.” That changes the conversation.
Sponsors and investors
Verified proof that they’re partnering with or investing in a sector leader. Benchmarked performance is the kind of evidence that justifies renewals and increased commitments.
Sustainability teams
See exactly where you lead and where the biggest opportunities are. Prioritise reduction efforts based on where you lag behind peers, not based on assumptions or guesswork.
